BEST BETS FOR MONDAY, DEC. 1, 2008

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

Fox, 8 p.m. ET

So far, John Connor has been wise enough to keep the women around him, even his girlfriend, at a somewhat respectful distance. (Since the future could hang in the balance, there's reason for wariness.) But tonight, those distances begin to shrink, and not for the best of motives.

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

ABC, 8:30 p.m. ET

One of the oldest holiday TV classics is repeated tonight – and it’s always fun to see it remaining an annual TV tradition. There are fewer of those every year, and I’m not saying that because I’m a Grinch.

PRISON BREAK

ABC, 8:30 p.m. ET

So last week we learned that the gang members had someone in their operation who was working against them the whole time – and that it was their ostensible boss, the guy offering them freedom. So now what? Sounds like it’s time for a revenge scenario.

HEROES

NBC, 9 p.m. ET

Last week the eclipse wiped away the powers of all the abnormals on this series. This week, we find out whether the change is temporary or permanent, and whether the stricken cheerleader will live. (That’s easy: If it’s permanent, there’s no more series. And yes, she’ll live. Kill the cheerleader, kill the show.)

BOSTON LEGAL

ABC, 10 p.m. ET

This is the penultimate episode of this wonderful David E. Kelley series, so don’t miss it. And there are other reasons to watch, including a juicy guest turn by returning recurring player Betty White, and a dramatic medical visit for William Shatner’s Denny Crane.

THE PARALLAX VIEW

TCM, 10 p.m. ET

I’m excited by this, too: a rare showing of one of the most underrated dramas of the 1970s. Made in 1974, it stars Warren Beatty as a reporter who gets involved, reluctantly, in a political assassination conspiracy plot. It’s a marvelous film, full of intrigue, paranoia, politics and pure star wattage – and it’s got lots of twists, turns and outright shocks.
